What is Trauma Care & Emergency?
Trauma care is the urgent assessment and treatment of injuries — for example from road accidents, falls, cuts or burns. The first goal is to check breathing, bleeding and other life-threatening problems, and then to treat the injuries.
For a serious injury, call the clinic straight away. In a life-threatening emergency, go to the nearest emergency department or call 112 without delay.
Common signs and symptoms
- Heavy bleeding that does not stop with pressure
- Head injury with vomiting, drowsiness or confusion
- Severe pain, swelling or deformity of a limb
- Difficulty in breathing, or a chest injury
- Deep cuts, burns or injuries from an accident
Having one of these does not always mean you have this condition. Only a doctor can tell after an examination.
How it is treated
The team first stabilises the patient, controls bleeding and gives pain relief. X-rays or other tests may be done. Wounds are cleaned and stitched or dressed, and fractures are splinted. Patients who need specialised care are referred to a suitable hospital.
Recovery
Recovery depends on the type and severity of the injury. Follow-up visits for wound checks, dressings and stitch removal are important. Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, fever or discharge increases.
Cost
The cost depends on your condition, the type of procedure, the tests needed and the length of any hospital stay. It can only be estimated after the doctor has examined you. Please contact the clinic for details.
