Understanding Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique where operations are performed through small incisions (usually 5-10mm) using a camera and specialized instruments.

How Does It Work?

A thin tube called a laparoscope is inserted through a small cut near the navel. This tube has a tiny camera that sends images to a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see inside the body clearly. Additional small incisions are made to insert surgical instruments.

Benefits Over Traditional Surgery

  • Smaller Incisions: Only 3-4 cuts of 5-10mm instead of one large cut
  • Less Pain: Significantly reduced post-operative pain
  • Faster Recovery: Most patients go home within 24-48 hours
  • Minimal Scarring: Tiny scars that fade over time
  • Lower Infection Risk: Smaller wounds mean less chance of infection

Common Laparoscopic Procedures

At Hari Om Clinic, we perform laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder removal, hernia repair, appendectomy, and various abdominal surgeries.

Recovery Timeline

Most patients can resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks, compared to 4-6 weeks with traditional open surgery. Light walking is encouraged from the day after surgery.
